Gender remains a hot-button issue. From the fight to close the pay gap and battling discrimination to reshaping societal definitions of gender, it’s a topic that continues to spark debate. Will there come a day, however, when gender defines a person no more than height, handedness, or hair color?

“The Future Is FeMale,” a new global study from Havas Group that draws on a survey of more than 12,000 people in 32 countries, finds that a nongendered future may soon define our outlook. The survey takes a look at gender equality in an era when millions of women still cannot work outside the home, earn high school diplomas or college degrees, vote, own property, or even hold elected office. This latest Prosumer Report does, however, provide interesting insights that illustrate the progression of women’s socioeconomic status in several parts of the world, and the report highlight a movement toward an agender society.

“The media is raging with arguments about pay gaps, harassment, sexploitation, rape culture, mansplaining, and manspreading, not to mention gender fluidity, transgender equality, gender-neutral language, and the place of women in Silicon Valley,” says Marianne Hurstel, Global Chief Strategy Officer as she announced the report’s findings. “Even so, to echo the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we see a trend toward a future in which people will be judged by the content of their character rather than the makeup of their chromosomes. And that future may not be terribly far off.”
